Star of Babies

Just one more picture to add to the blog. Last Friday we had reunion with the other families who were in our Bradley class so that everyone could meet each others babies.

Sam and his Parents

Here are a couple of up to date photos of Sam and his parents.

Here Sam and I are at the local park in Charlestown, where he and Kate came to meet me for lunch one day last week.

The second picture is from yesterday, when we had Sam dressed in his most adult cloths yet (not that he really cared).

I took him to the Utica Preservation Society meeting last night so he could meet the other members and they cooed over him (I am the youngest member of the group by several decades so you can imagine the response Sam got).

Spring in Indiana

Last Sunday on my ride, I came across this old plow on the side of a field. As some of you know, when I was a little kid I was obssesed with John Deere stuff (kind of like I am obssessed with bike stuff now), and couldn't pass up this shot. The fields are really starting to turn gree around here, what with the first shoots of grass and spring wheat coming up. Heck, yesterday on my way home from work, I saw a couple of calves chasing each other around a field.

Sam & some riding pictures

First, here is Sam wearing one of my caps. He still has a little growing to do to be able to fit into it.

Last Sunday I got out for a longer ride. I actually did a ride that I have tried to do several times before, but have never completed it because I always ran into some sort of bad luck.

I rode from home out to Charlestown State Park and then down to the river in the park.

No real pictures of riding, but there was this really cool sun and cloud formation that I saw on my way back through the park.

Sam Fashion Show

(That was Kate's title)

Sam doing his Mr. Happy impersonation.

Followed by his Soprano's impersation.

And finally dressed up for a walk this morning.

Sam is doing really well, gaining weight and growing. He is starting to hold his head up on on his own, has started to smile, and is sleeping longer at night (now if only his Dad could do that too).

Sam shows his stuff

Kate here - this is a video I shot while Sam was finishing up his "business" on the changing table. He showcases all his great talents: coughing, sneezing, yawning, crying, playing with his tongue, and his newest trick: smiling!

Dog on Bike

This was posted to one of the bike listservs I am on. And of course it comes from the land of the rising sun.

Visitors

First off, for Dan and Tomo, Sam says thank you for the cloths, mobile, and bib.

We have been having a pretty busy weekend here in Utica. Britta and Matt came down for the last part of their spring break, and we have had fun hanging out with them. Yesterday we went to Zappos (and yes, Britta was the only one to walk out of there with new shoes).

After that we went to Bernheim Arboriteum for a picnic because the weather was so nice, though really windy. The one shot of the bamboo was my lame atempt to copy shots from movies such as House of Flying Daggers.

The day ended with a cookout with John and Sandy.

Today, Sam is going to his first birthday party for our friends daughter, Jane.

L'Eroica Season

The season has started in Italy, and lately a lot of these eroica (heroic) races have started to pop-up. This is a video of the 2008 edition of the original one.

Then last year they started holding a pro race that traveled over the same dirt roads.

These are the last few kilometers of the 2009 race.

Morning Ride

Early morning, when contemplation is best.
Van Morrison "Hymns to the Silent"
Lately, I have been getting up to ride early in the morning so as to have time to spend with Kate and Sam after work. Until today, I have had to ride my trainer because of the cold and dark. But we are finally getting some warmer weather here in Indiana, and so today I got to head out on an early morning ride. While it was a short ride, it was also the first time in several weeks that I was able to get out on the roads, and while the 15 mph wind slowed me down some, it was still great to be back outside on my bike.

Sammy

Here is Sam trying on my shoes, he does have a little ways to go, but not much.

We were given a nice baby carrier a last week, and have been letting Sam test it out, he seems to like it. We took him for a walk in it today, and he fell asleep with his head against Kate.

There is no doubt that his heart does belong to his mommy.

And finally, "What you look'n at?"

This hardly seems worthy of posting now that Sam's around to shine, but since Luke posted his pictures of cool bike frames I thought I could do the same. I saw these around Harajuku last Sunday when I was walking around there with Nick. It's a pretty cool thing that the bikes that are in fashion right now are these old lugged steel framed track bikes. Not too long ago everyone would have been riding around on fat tubed mountain bikes. I guess if you give it a few years and those become retro you'll start to see them again in the fashionable parts of Tokyo, New York, and Berlin.
